John Zay Guest House ExpansionHBA Cares brings members together in partnership and leadership for this important project
Together with members of the HBA, the Penrose-St. Francis Health Foundation and Penrose-St. Francis Health Services broke ground June 23, 2016 on the expansion to the John Zay Guest House. HBA Cares played an instrumental part of the building of the Guest House back in 2008. In the eight years since its opening, the Guest House has almost always been full, with a consistent waiting list of 7 to 10 parties. There have been as many as 20 groups waiting for a room - enough to more than fill an entire second house. The HBA is pleased to once again be part of this much-anticipated project. Anticipated to take approximately 15 months to construct, the opening of the new space is scheduled for mid-October, 2017. This expansion will provide between 3,600 and 4,000 additional nights of lodging per year for patients and their families. According to the Penrose-St. Francis Health Foundation at the completion of their fundraising campaign, the project was funded entirely by philanthropic donations made by individual donors and local-area foundations. HBA Cares coordinated and secured $500,000 of donated services and materials for this important project.
“George [Hess] has been the driving force behind this project, and we truly value his leadership,” commented DeGrant. “HBA Cares and the HBA of Colorado Springs are honored to be part of the John Zay Guest House expansion project,” said Mike DeGrant, HBA Cares President. “We appreciate the support from the many donors and contributors who have come together to make this much-needed project a reality, including KGA Studios, JR Engineering, N.E.S. Inc., Classic Homes, and Vantage Homes.”
DeGrant gave special recognition to George Hess of Vantage Homes, the Builder Captain on the project. “George has been the driving force behind this project, and we truly value his leadership.” Project Leadership
